The department said Tacoma firefighters responded to 23 fireworks-related fires last year and warned that discharging fireworks within the city could put neighbors’ safety and property at risk and carry a fine of $513. The city promoted an alternative: the Summer Blast event on July 4 at Ruston Way, with music, food and a publicly produced fireworks display.
City materials said the celebration spans Dune Peninsula and Cummings Park on Ruston Way, with the display visible from Dune Peninsula Park in the north along Ruston Way and as far south as Jack Hyde Park.
