Pryor Creek board recommends Ben Barnett to fill Seat 5

The Pryor Creek Recreation Center Board on July 10 voted to recommend Ben Barnett to assume Board Seat 5 when the current term expires Aug. 31, 2025.
Barnett told the board he is the deputy clinic administrator for the Alamo Health Center in Salina and has worked with the Cherokee Nation for 21 years. "I'm super passionate about health and fitness," he said, and described prior board and committee experience, including a vice chair role on a health and crisis board in Tahlequah.
Barnett said one of his priorities would be to "tighten up" the center's cross‑partnership with the Cherokee Nation to keep access to fitness and health activities available to community members who might otherwise lack them. "I would hate for our citizens to have something and get taken away," he said.
Board members moved and seconded a recommendation to appoint Barnett to Seat 5; the voice vote passed and the chair welcomed him. The board packet contained a short biography of Barnett that staff distributed to members in advance.
The appointment is a board recommendation; the board described the next step as taking the recommendation to the administrative process that governs filling or renewing the seat at the end of the current term.
