Commission approves removing 90-day limit on P&Z deferrals for zoning hearings

The Argyle Planning and Zoning Commission on July 9 recommended that Town Council amend administrative procedures so the commission is not constrained by a 90-calendar-day limit to act after closing a public hearing on a zoning change request.
Staff explained the 90-day provision dated to a 2010 Development Standards update and likely originated in the City of Keller's code. The proposed revision removes the 90-day limitation so the commission may defer recommendation until it has all necessary information. "This limitation might have been listed in the City of Keller's ordinances, and we just put it in," staff said.
Commissioners noted the amendment could leave the timeline open-ended, but staff and commissioners said they did not expect indefinite delays; rather the change gives the commission flexibility to seek additional information without being forced to act near an artificial deadline.
The commission opened and closed the public hearing with no speakers and voted to recommend approval of the amendment; the motion passed 5-0. The change will be forwarded to Town Council for final action.
