Town official asks county for $15,000 toward sidewalk; council approves contribution

Rob Wolf, representing his town, told the council that the town had won a Department of Transportation Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant of $482,000 to build a sidewalk connecting West Market Street to Chesterfield Highway and requested a county contribution toward the town’s required 20% match.
Wolf said the project will increase pedestrian safety, improve student access to Traul Intermediate and Traul High School, and connect residents to commercial centers and health care. He told the council the town’s 20% match equals $114,800 and asked Chesterfield County to contribute $15,000 toward that match; he said the sidewalk would serve about 808 people, roughly 200 of whom are county residents. Wolf said DOT will manage the project and the town expects billing shortly.
Council members moved and seconded a motion to provide the requested $15,000 from economic development funds; the motion passed by voice vote with Miss Burns recorded as the second. Council instructed county staff to coordinate payment timing with the town and DOT.
Ending: The town representative left to meet with DOT and said the project is proceeding under DOT management; the county’s contribution was approved and will be processed by county staff.
