Magistrate authorizes abatement if Deerwood Avenue property remains noncompliant

Bay County Special Magistrate Tiffany Serto on Thursday accepted code enforcement's recommendation to authorize county staff and any contractor hired by the county to abate violations at 4941 Deerwood Avenue if the respondent does not bring the property into compliance. Inspectors told the court that post-hearing reinspections showed no change.
Chris Hubbard of Bay County Code Enforcement presented photos and explained that the property remained in violation for storage on a vacant lot under the county's Land Development Regulations (residential zones). The magistrate noted that the respondent had been given time to comply but that subsequent inspections showed the storage and associated violations remained.
Code enforcement asked for authority to enter the property and abate identified violations and to record abatement costs as a lien against the property. Magistrate Serto accepted the recommendation and directed that, should the property remain noncompliant, code enforcement is authorized to proceed and record costs in the public record as allowed under Bay County code.
