Board approves negotiated agreements: teachers get an extra day and 2% base increase; classified receive 2.1% raise

The Washington County School District Board of Education approved negotiated agreements with the district’s certified and classified associations at its June 19 meeting.
Details of the agreements Brett Mills summarized the terms approved by the board. For the certified (teacher) association, the negotiated package added one day to the salary schedule (moving from 183 to 184 contract days) and provided a 2% increase to the salary base. The certified agreement also included a one-year concession related to funding a teacher preparation day (to be paid in September) and reauthorized annual step increases (an $800 per-step payment for eligible employees).
For the classified association, negotiators agreed to a 2.1% salary increase rather than adding contract days. Both agreements incorporated the district insurance committee’s recommendations and included employee cost-sharing adjustments to help cover higher insurance expenses. The agreements also added $300 to the district-provided health reimbursement account (HRA) on top of the current $1,200 level for employees covered by a single-family plan covering more than one district employee.
Ratification and next steps Board members approved the agreements by motion. The board’s presentation noted that the teacher association ratification process was ongoing and that the teacher association’s ratification deadline was set for 12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11.
Board action A motion to approve the negotiated agreements passed by voice vote.
Ending Board members thanked the associations and negotiating teams for what they described as professional negotiation sessions and urged timely ratification by members of the associations.
