Northglenn student Alexandra Rodriguez Loya wins Young Entrepreneur award for Flowers by Alexa

Alexandra Rodriguez Loya, a senior at Northglenn High School, won this year’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for her business Flowers by Alexa. She said the business makes large bouquets using both preserved “eternal” ribbon roses and fresh flowers that she delivers to customers who order mainly through Instagram.

Rodriguez Loya told the audience she began making arrangements as gifts for friends before creating an Instagram account to sell her arrangements. “People usually DM me through Instagram if they wanna order,” she said. She described common orders as birthday bouquets, arrangements for Valentine’s Day and other occasions, and asked-for inspiration photos when customers do not have specific ideas.

She said her customers are mostly high school students from Northglenn High School and other area schools such as Mountain Range, Thornton, Horizon, and Westminster High School. Rodriguez Loya said she is working to expand her reach through platforms including TikTok and Snapchat, and sometimes Facebook.

Balancing school and the business has been a challenge, she said; her mother helps by supplying materials and offering advice. Rodriguez Loya said she aims to attend Red Rocks Community College and continue operating Flowers by Alexa while in college. She said she values creating arrangements that make people happy and described the award as recognition for pursuing new opportunities.
