The finance committee approved renewing the citys insurance policy with a renewal premium of $368,912 and chose the "mid max" coverage option, the finance director said.
The finance director told the committee, "our renewal came in at $368,000, 912. That's a 2.56 increase from the previous year," and recommended accepting the mid-max plan. The director also said there had been only one year with a payout under the program and that, "we have saved over $289,000" over the term of the insurance arrangement.
A member moved to approve the recommendation and the motion was placed on the floor. The clerk recorded the motion as brought by Baldwin, Reynolds, Melvin and Demas to accept the recommendation to renew the mid-max plan. A roll call vote followed; Alderman Demas, Thompson, Patek, Reynolds, Lothairi, Jepsen and Crane voted in the affirmative. The clerk announced, "The motion carried."
Committee members briefly noted a larger-than-typical reserve level this year, with one member attributing higher reserves to recent lightning-related claims. No further debate was recorded on coverage terms.
The approval directs staff to finalize renewal paperwork and premium payment under the chosen plan. No ordinance or statute was cited during the discussion and no additional conditions or amendments were recorded.
