Kenosha School District recognizes Head Start Policy Council; program serves 389 preschoolers

The Kenosha School District recognized its Head Start Policy Council members and KUSD Head Start staff during National Head Start Awareness Month. A board speaker asked attendees from the council to wave so they could be recognized and thanked volunteers and staff for their service.

The speaker said the KUSD Head Start program serves 389 students, ages 3 to 5, and "provides comprehensive family support and helps prepare students for success in school." The speaker explained that every Policy Council exists to give parents a voice in program spending, classroom activities and community partnerships.

The speaker named Yolanda Adams as the school-board representative to the Policy Council and identified Rhonda Lopez as the Head Start principal present in the audience. The speaker also noted that Mr. Bridal was expected to attend upcoming Policy Council meetings and that Ms. Schmeling is a former Policy Council attendee.

During public comment, Robin Cullen also praised Head Start work in the district as "the best of what public education can be," calling out the program's family supports and lead-screening efforts.
