Ocean Shores says Department of Commerce grant funding the 2025 coastal‑erosion cobble work; remaining sections set for November

Becky, a staff member, told the committee the city has installed cobble on the large berm as part of the 2025 coastal erosion project and that the work so far has been covered by a Department of Commerce grant. She reported a cobble cost to date of $286,834 and said the project budget under the grant is $864,727.

Staff said they have installed what was reported in the meeting as 6,120 tons of cobble (reported figure from staff) and that contractors will top off the berm with sand once engineers give approval. Becky said Marshall contacted engineers earlier the same day to request approval to add sand and that the plan is to place sand "this week." She said Northwest Rock will take a week off, after which crews will move to the smaller Mariner Court and Peninsula Court sections; the project team was targeting Nov. 10 to begin that work.

Tim, a staff member, confirmed all necessary grant conditions had been met for the remaining sections and said staff would begin submitting invoices to the Department of Commerce for reimbursement once work proceeds.

Committee members and staff discussed public safety near the berm, noting families with toddlers had accessed the exposed sections after windstorms and that staff had contacted the nonemergency police line to ask officers to advise the public that the berm is not safe for public access. No vote or formal council action was taken during the committee update.
