Student representative Brian Omeza briefed the Bridgeport Board of Education on Central Magnet/Aquaculture program recent activities: an open house with more than 100 families, an FFA fundraiser raising nearly $800 for student experiences, and a Go Baby Go project to build modified ride-on cars for young children with disabilities.
Brian Omeza, a senior and student representative from Central Magnet (Aqua program), told the board Oct. 27 that the school’s recent open house drew more than 100 families, many from Bridgeport, and produced positive feedback. He thanked district communications staff and Board members who helped promote the event.
Omeza said the school’s FFA chapter raised nearly $800 at a McDonald’s fundraiser; funds will support field trips and leadership experiences. He also described a STEM initiative, Go Baby Go, in which students will modify ride-on Fisher-Price cars to provide mobility options for young children with disabilities.
Omeza and another student answered board questions about the school day schedule and academic offerings; he praised challenging courses such as UConn biology and the social opportunities FFA provides. The students said middle-school visits to Aqua will pause for winter and resume in spring.
