Solon Board approves routine business, pays $25,283.20 in bills and OKs personnel items

The Solon Board of Education on Oct. 27 approved routine business and personnel actions, including payment of bills totaling $25,283.20 and several personnel items for the 2025–26 school year.

The board voted to approve the minutes of its Oct. 13 special and regular meetings. The motion was moved by Missus Barksdale and seconded by Missus Abramowitz; on roll call the minutes passed with four votes in favor and one abstention. The board approved payment of bills totaling $25,283.20 as recommended; the bills package includes charges for replacement radios and new athletic/academic information kiosks. That motion was moved by Mister Heckman and seconded by Mister Patton and carried on roll call.

The board also approved a "then-and-now" purchase order from the maintenance department that had been posted to the wrong account code; the purchase was described as an equipment-line item and the board approved correcting the coding so the supplier could be paid. The motion to approve the then-and-now certificate was moved by Mister Heckman and seconded by a colleague and passed on roll call.

In personnel and program actions the board on motions and roll-call votes approved: overnight trips for Solon High School speech and debate (events listed in the agenda for winter/spring 2026); a list of substitutes for the 2025–26 school year after confirmation of paperwork and background checks; an unpaid leave of absence for one district employee for the 2025–26 year for personal reasons; district supplemental and pupil-activity contracts (refilling existing winter coaching positions); and home-instruction tutors for students out for extended illness or injury. All of those motions were adopted by roll-call votes recorded in the meeting minutes.

No public commenters addressed the board at either public-comment opportunity. The board set its next meeting for Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.
