Candidate Josh Cortez introduces campaign priorities to Guadalupe County Commissioners Court

Josh Cortez, who said he is running in the newly drawn congressional district that includes Guadalupe County, introduced himself during the "citizens to be heard" portion of the Oct. 28 commissioners court meeting and outlined several campaign priorities.
Cortez said the new district's configuration gives Guadalupe, Wilson and Karnes counties "the ability to fight for our own issues up in Washington, D.C.," and said he was the only candidate in the race with prior federal legislative staff experience. "A couple of things we want to get ahead of for this district: one, we'd like to make sure we're able to address some of the incoming water issues," Cortez said. He added that the next five to six years could bring critical water-supply challenges to the region.
Cortez also urged more support for trade and technical education so local students can obtain credentials more quickly and stay in the region, and he emphasized support for veterans and local military installations. He said he was born and raised in Guadalupe County and attended New Braunfels Christian Academy.
