Votes at a glance: Jackson County commissioners approve development order, multiple contracts and budgeted capital purchases

The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 30 approved a series of items spanning land-use approvals, contract awards and budgeted capital purchases.

Among the actions the board approved was a development order for a Pilot travel center on Highway 231 after opening and closing a public hearing; the board also read an ordinance amendment by title and set a second reading and public hearing for Nov. 12 to adopt an amendment to the Jackson County comprehensive plan that revises a wellhead protection distance to comply with state guidance. The consent agenda — amended after commissioner discussion about diversity of appointments to the Tourism Development Council — was approved as amended.

The board approved a nonbinding memorandum of understanding under Project Blue Sky with Woodall Total Comfort Systems to support a proposed roughly 10,000-square-foot expansion that will coordinate with local vocational education programs. The board authorized a master service agreement with Prime Corrections to pursue invoice-review services that aim to reduce inmate medical costs and approved an amended MOU with HealthMed Insurance Services to enroll inmates in insurance that could be used on subsequent incarcerations. The Emergency Management Performance Grant for FY2025–26 was accepted in the amount of $52,577.28.
