Representatives of Fountain veterans organizations addressed the council on Oct. 20 with event announcements and volunteer requests.

John Langley, commander of American Legion Post 38, told the council the post recently held a trunk‑or‑treat event with high turnout, has donated to local robotics teams and high‑school athletic programs, and plans a Veterans Day ceremony with a flag raising and post‑ceremony dinner. Langley said Post 38 will distribute coats to students and operate a Thanksgiving dinner open to the public.

Travis Baker of VFW Post 6461 described the posts successful application to make Fountain Fairview Cemetery a Wreaths Across America location. Baker said the cemetery contains 331 veterans, including 21 Civil War burials and 35 identified Purple Heart recipients; as of the start of the council meeting about 151 wreaths had been purchased toward a goal of one wreath per veteran.

Baker also said the post received a donated Purple Heart Veil sign intended for Fountain Fort Carson High School and that the post will coordinate a dedication; the VFW is seeking volunteers for ceremonial wreath placements on Dec. 13 at 10:00 a.m.

No council action was required; both organizations asked residents and community groups to support upcoming events and volunteer efforts.
