Dr. Steven Choi said the district is advancing Phase 1 designs for the new two-story classroom building at Ballantyne Elementary, new TK/K classrooms at Carver Elementary and the medical arts modernization at San Marino High School. He noted that geotechnical investigations, site surveys and underground utility detection contracts are on the agenda for board approval and that the design teams have been meeting weekly with user-group questionnaires distributed to sites.
CJ Nolan, the program consultant, described the launch of a contractor prequalification (PQ) system on the district website to allow qualified contractors to participate in Measure M bid packages. Nolan said the first early-impact bid packages this week will include a concessions restroom refresh and auditorium fencing at the high school; playground proposals from vendors are arriving and final proposals are expected by the end of the week.
On larger scopes, staff reported a preliminary estimate of approximately $3,700,000 for HVAC installation in both high school gymnasiums; attendees said that proposals are being collected in case the board elects to move forward. Choi also described a district-wide roof assessment and prioritization plan for roofs identified as in "very poor" condition, with a goal of completing the majority of work by next summer using winter and spring breaks to get ahead where possible.
Board members asked that staff provide more visuals and progress photos for the community. Dr. Choi said a Measure M updates webpage exists but currently emphasizes text; staff committed to add more audiovisual materials and survey summaries as designs progress.
