Western Montgomery Career & Technology Center JOC discusses conceptual addition, feasibility and student representation

At the Oct. 27 board meeting, Mrs. Weingarten reported that the Joint Operating Committee (JOC) discussed initial conceptual planning for an addition at the Western Montgomery Career & Technology Center, including a firm comparison, feasibility study costs, stakeholder engagement, potential student representation on the JOC and donated materials.
Mrs. Weingarten reported to the Spring‑Ford board that the Western Montgomery Career & Technology Center JOC met Oct. 6 and began a preliminary feasibility process for a possible addition to the center.
The JOC heard a presentation from Dave Livingood comparing four architectural/engineering firms that submitted proposals. The comparison focused on each firm’s experience in career and technical education projects, fees, strengths and alignment with the center’s request for proposals; the JOC is at a conceptual stage that will examine flexibility of space and how existing space might be used. Livingood also reported outreach to potential donors: American Crane provided five pallets of steel valued at $3,000 in support of the center’s needs.
Other items at the JOC meeting included consideration of student representation on the JOC (a junior member similar to the board’s student representative was proposed), PennDOT engagement and trade‑union partnership discussions, and pre‑NOCTI testing data that will be reviewed by the Western Center’s administration and shared with the board at a later date. Mrs. Weingarten said the JOC will continue the process, with the next meeting scheduled for Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Western Tech Center office.
Dr. Finnerty also told the board that a federal government shutdown has slowed the processing of FBI clearances, delaying onboarding of new employees in some cases.
