Manatee board approves publishing draft redistricting maps after Oct. 31 workshop; three community meetings scheduled

The School Board of Manatee County voted unanimously on Oct. 28 to publish draft school redistricting maps to the district website after a workshop scheduled for Oct. 31 and to solicit public feedback through in-person and virtual meetings.
Superintendent Lori Breslin and operations staff outlined the plan: staff will publish the draft maps after the board discusses them at the Oct. 31 workshop, post background materials and a "Let's Talk" comment portal on the district website, and hold three community meetings the week of Nov. 17 (Lakewood Ranch, Braden River and Parrish) with virtual participation options. Staff said they would monitor public comments and add additional meetings if feedback shows "hot areas" where more outreach is needed.
Board members requested calendar invitations to attend community sessions; staff agreed to add meeting details to board calendars when dates are finalized. Staff said the goal is to present final maps for board approval in December and reiterated that the redistricting process began in the spring and includes multiple prior public meetings and materials on the website.
The vote to publish the draft maps passed 5 to 0. Staff emphasized that published drafts are for public review and that additional community meetings could be added if the board requests them after the workshop.
