Redmond plans centralized volunteer platform; Volunteer Matters to launch internally in Q1 2026

Parks staff on Oct. 28 introduced Maya Klem, the city’s Green Redmond and volunteer coordinator, and outlined a plan to centralize volunteer management across departments using a volunteer-management platform called Volunteer Matters.
Lindsay Falkenberg said the role and project were created to streamline volunteer opportunities, improve reporting and make it easier for residents to find and sign up for city volunteer activities. Klem described convening a volunteer working group, auditing existing volunteer programs and vetting software options. She said the city aims to launch the chosen platform internally in Q1 2026 for staff training and program posting, with a public launch later in 2026.
Klem said existing city volunteer programs are well used and frequently fill; she emphasized the platform will make program information clearer to prospective volunteers and improve centralized tracking and storytelling about volunteer impact. Council members asked that the platform include age filters and family-friendly filters and encouraged staff to coordinate with emergency management, police and fire programs that maintain separate volunteer tracks.
