Yorktown bond projects proceed; site work at Mohansic and Brookside under way, athletic fields phased

The Yorktown Central School District reported progress on bond-funded construction at Mohansic and Brookside during the Oct. 27 meeting.
Superintendent Ron Hatter said the projects are on schedule and within budget, with initial site work under way: topsoil removal, playground removal at Mohansic and installation of safety fencing. The district27s facilities project committee meets biweekly to review progress and mitigation plans to minimize disruptions to teaching and learning.
On athletic fields, Hatter said two fields are anticipated to be complete in phased timing: the baseball field and field-hockey field are expected by the end of the current school year, while the multipurpose field north of those fields is targeted for completion by winter of the next school year. The district said it incorporated student-athlete input to replicate landmarks on the new upper field for continuity with Charlie Murphy Field.
The board approved an easement requested by NYSEG to place and service transformers at Brookside and Mohansic that grant the utility access to the equipment for maintenance and repair. During discussion, Hatter explained the purpose of the easement: "the utility company NYSEG is requiring an easement so that they can place a transformer on our property and the easement grants them access to service the transformer or repair the transformer." The motion to approve the NYSEG easement passed by voice vote.
Hatter said the district will replace playground structures removed during site work with larger, modern equipment and is seeking to minimize the loss of play opportunities during construction.
Board members and staff said they will continue to monitor scheduling and safety measures as work proceeds.
