Roselle authorizes sublease negotiations with Center Cup at Metra station vendor space

Caitlin Hilliard, the village planner, said the center cart has operated at the station several days per week in recent weeks and is seeking to occupy the vendor space from November through April when outdoor vending is more difficult. The proposed arrangement would be month‑to‑month, include a nominal goodwill rent and a security deposit, and would include an option for the operator to donate to the Roselle Food Pantry, Hilliard said.
Bob Butler, representing the Center Cup, told trustees the nonprofit has given about $20,000 to local charities over five years and uses volunteer labor; a recent DuPage County grant would allow staffing through winter months if a permanent indoor location were available.
Board action: Following a brief discussion, the board voted to authorize the village administrator to negotiate and finalize the sublease and related terms so the Center Cup can operate in the vendor space beginning in November.
Funding and terms: Staff described the proposed arrangement as a goodwill, community‑oriented sublease rather than a commercial lease. Final rent, deposit and insurance requirements will be included in the negotiated sublease. Staff will return any contract documents as required by the municipal code.
