PENCIL Foundation offers partnerships, volunteer and funding support to MNPS

Christian Buggs, identifying herself as a District 5 resident and representing the PENCIL Foundation, used her public-comment time to underscore the organizations volunteer, partnership and grant-support functions. "PENCIL the Pencil Foundation really is here to continue to support MNPS so that children like my own can really experience the fullness that Nashville has to offer," Buggs said.
Buggs described three primary areas of PENCILs work: connecting schools to volunteers and partners, operating an educator resource center (open Tuesdays, Thursdays and every other Saturday), and acting as a pass-through for dollars when a school lacks a parent organization. She offered to follow up on a principal's expressed interest in hospital partnerships for a middle-school health-science pathway.
Her remarks were received during the public-participation portion of the meeting and required no board action.
