Wildwood board approves no-parking zone at Green Pines Elementary; staff reports school‑zone signage updates

The City of Wildwood Board of Public Safety voted Oct. 16 to support installation of no-parking signs on the south side of West Glen Farms Drive in the area adjacent to Green Pines Elementary. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Board members and staff said the restriction aims to address constrained sight lines and unsafe curbside queuing on a downhill curve during afternoon pick-up. Staff and the school principal told the board that once the school gate opens (about 3:05 p.m.), traffic clears quickly, but parents arriving early and parking on the downhill curve create a hazard for pedestrians and oncoming vehicles. Staff said they will enforce the restriction and that signs had already been installed in the days before the vote.
Earlier in the meeting, staff reported completion of a school-zone signage review for Wildwood-maintained streets, performed to align with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The memo to the board listed potential future enhancements — such as rapid-flash beacons and flashing speed beacons at selected crosswalks — that would require additional funding or intergovernmental coordination (Saint Louis County will install flashing beacons at Dartmouth Crest and Clayton Road by 2026, staff said).
The board asked staff to monitor Lafayette and Green Pines circulation patterns and return with updates as needed.
