Blufftown Council appoints Spencer Wade to midterm vacancy

Wade, who told council members he moved to Bluff after meeting his partner and has worked locally in construction and as a river guide, said he values "the people and the sense of community" he found in town. He and fellow applicant Gary Hawes answered questions about strengths, decision-making and interim priorities during the special meeting.
Council members said continuity on the town's planning-and-zoning processes was a major consideration during the discussion. Several members noted a desire to keep planning-and-zoning fully staffed through January to handle pending ordinances and enforcement items; that staffing conversation shaped the council's remarks before the vote.
A motion to appoint Wade was made and seconded and the council voted unanimously to approve the appointment. The council said the newly appointed member would be sworn in during the regular meeting on Nov. 4, and staff will set up email and basic technology access and schedule a short interim briefing so the appointee can begin carrying out responsibilities.
Council members thanked both applicants for stepping forward and said they look forward to working with the new member in January when the incoming council takes office.
