Cape Girardeau honors Battalion Chief Brad Dillo after 30 years of service

The City of Cape Girardeau honored Battalion Chief Brad Dillo on Oct. 20 as he retires after 30 years and 19 days with the Cape Girardeau Fire Department.
Mayor Kinder introduced Dillo and recounted his career milestones, saying the city wanted to honor a long career that began on Sept. 25, 1995. Dillo was promoted to captain in September 2002 and to battalion chief in January 2009, the mayor said.
The council and staff listed awards and citations from Dillo’s service, including Fire Department Employee of the Year (1996 and 2005), a unit citation for planning and department improvements (1996), a Star of Merit (2016), a unit citation for deploying with the technical rescue team to Texas after Hurricane Harvey (2017), letters of commendation in 2017 and 2019, and a Zoll Clinical Save Award in 2022. The mayor also noted Dillo served as a team leader for the department’s technical rescue team and as a state adjunct instructor for the University of Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute.
Dillo thanked the city and his family at the podium: "It's been an honor serving, everybody throughout this career, and I wanna thank my family because without my family, I couldn't have done what I was able to do. So, again, thank you all. I appreciate it." The council presented a commemorative clock and took photographs with family and colleagues.
The recognition was ceremonial; no formal personnel action was taken at the meeting.
