A representative of the Palo Alto Airport Association urged the Planning & Transportation Commission to consider airport influence and Santa Clara County Airport Land Use Commission review for a proposed housing site near Gang Road, and asked that future residents be clearly informed about aircraft noise and safety issues.
Bob Lemmocks, president of the Palo Alto Airport Association, addressed the commission during general public comment and asked commissioners to factor airport safety and land-use rules into an emerging housing proposal east of U.S. 101 near Gang Road. Lemmocks said the site lies within the airport influence area and that, by law, the Santa Clara County Airport Land Use Commission should review plans for compliance with the county's Airport Land Use Plan.
"This development lies within the airport influence area," Lemmocks told commissioners. "Any building within the airport influence area requires the county's airport land use comprehensive land use plan to be considered for compliance." He also urged timely disclosure of aircraft noise footprints so "future residents [are] clearly informed of the aircraft noise footprint before purchasing."
Lemmocks asked the commission and city staff to coordinate with the county and the airport community and said the Palo Alto Airport Association would work with local officials to seek a combined outcome that protects safety while supporting housing goals.
What happens next: The comment was made during public comment on an item not on the PTC agenda; commissioners and staff did not take formal action during the meeting. Staff or members of council may follow up through project-level review if and when the proposal is formally referred for planning review and county ALUC input.
