Board approves Lawrence Public Schools strategic plan for 2025—2030

The Lawrence Alliance for Education board on Oct. 8 voted to adopt the district's strategic plan for 2025—2030, a five-year framework the superintendent and consultants said will guide priorities, resource alignment and accountability.
Superintendent Carrero, who recommended board approval, said the plan reflects 11 months of work with Education Resource Strategies and extensive stakeholder input. "If you look at the strategic plan of the 6 strategies, I believe it comprehensively captures what we believe the school district should be focusing on," Carrero said. He said the plan will be translated into operational priorities, staffing alignments and annual progress reports for the board.
Board members asked whether the plan incorporated the turnaround-plan metrics tied to the district's receivership status and whether DESE had reviewed the document. Carrero said the plan was shared with DESE, that the agency provided input and that the district worked to mesh turnaround metrics with the five-year priorities so the plan can support a transition out of receivership when governance changes occur.
After discussion the board approved the plan by roll call. Recorded votes on the motion to approve were: Jose Luis Galaf: yes; Edgar De Leon: yes; Juana Matias: yes; Maria Mueller: yes; Patricia Mariano: yes.
Carrero said the district will make the plan available in translated formats, provide parents and staff with regular updates on progress, and return to the board with implementation steps tied to budget and annual outcomes.
