OCFA briefs council on training, community outreach and Beacon Fire response; no homes lost

Laguna Niguel — The Orange County Fire Authority presented its quarterly update to the Laguna Niguel City Council on Oct. 7, outlining recent community outreach, training exercises and the response to the Aug. 20 Beacon Fire.
Division Chief Summers (OCFA) reported the agency’s recent outreach included school visits, station tours, public events and car‑seat installations in Laguna Niguel. Training highlights included high‑point rescue drills, self‑contained breathing apparatus familiarization with upgraded equipment, and helipod/air‑operations exercises to support wildland firefighting.
Summers briefed the council on the Beacon Fire response: OCFA, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and mutual‑aid partners deployed helicopters (including two Firehawk helicopters), hand crews, bulldozers and more than 150 personnel. Joint command identified threatened homes, executed evacuation warnings/orders and maintained coordinated incident communications and sheltering; Summers said the coordinated response held the fire’s spread and resulted in no lost lives or homes.
OCFA invited the public to an open house at Laguna Niguel Fire Station 39 on Oct. 11. The division chief also said the agency posts updates on social media at OCFA Division 5.
