The County Commission voted to close the county swimming pool for the 2026 season while staff pursues repairs, replacement options and outside funding, the commission announced after extended debate and public comment. The motion to close passed on an electronic roll call, 13 yes, 4 no and 2 abstain.
The recommendation to suspend operation next year came from the Parks and Recreation committee after staff presented final financials for the 2025 season and a safety assessment. "The pool is in such bad repair...it has undermined the soil under it, which has compromised the structural integrity of the pool as a whole," said Director Cliff Salie, the county parks and public-works director, describing years of leakage that he said had "completely hollowed out underneath that pool" and left the area "soft and spongy."
