Board approves Salthouse Smiles sign variance on Manchester Road

The Board of Adjustment approved a variance allowing Salthouse Smiles Pediatric Dentistry to install a 32-inch-high, 36-square-foot internally lit wall sign on the north elevation of its space at 16560 Manchester Road.
Paige Thorsen, representing Salthouse Smiles, said the requested module-style sign preserves visual consistency with the practice's other locations and is sized to remain legible from the roadway. "Based on [the sign fabricator's] recommendation, the sign would look best if sized to be roughly 5% of the storefront wall area," Thorsen said in the presentation.
Planning staff recommended approval, noting that the Wildwood Crossing development has larger facades and proportional signage allowances. The Architectural Review Board reviewed the design and did not object. The board voted to approve the variance as proposed.
The approval is conditioned on the sign meeting other applicable building and electrical permit requirements; staff will confirm final compliance before an installation permit is issued.
