Milford City Council on Oct. 28 voted to donate an upper parking‑lot parcel (175 West Center) and to waive impact fees if a Beaver County grant application is successful to build an education center in Milford. The proposed center would provide training in nursing, EMT, mining and geothermal programs, and offer college courses to help local students and adults access workforce training.
Staff and economic development representatives said Southern Utah University and Southwest Tech have partnered on an operating plan and the county has submitted a grant application to the governor's office to fund construction. Staff estimated building costs in current bids in the range of $450,000 to $550,000 and reported a parcel valuation of approximately $75,000. The council voted to donate the parcel and waive impact fees to help the grant application; the city will retain ownership of the land and, if the grant is awarded, will enter MOUs similar to the senior center arrangement to govern operations and maintenance.
Councilmembers praised staff and economic development partners for recent work on the proposal and directed staff to pursue the grant partnership and return with memoranda of understanding if funding is awarded.
