Hermosa Beach approves new recreation-registration software, staff says flat-fee model will lower costs

Hermosa Beach ' The City Council voted Oct. 28 to authorize a contract with Rec Technologies Inc. to provide a new recreation management platform for the Community Resources Department. The selection follows a request-for-proposal process and demonstrations of leading vendors.
Staff said the new software will aim to improve how the city presents programs and facilities online, simplify facility reservations (tennis, pickleball and other community facilities), add guest checkout and reduce variable vendor fees. Lisa Nichols, director of Community Resources, told the council the city previously paid a revenue-share fee model to Active Network that totaled roughly $127,000 in FY 2024—6; Rec Technologies proposed a flat-fee agreement that staff estimates will reduce annual operating costs and simplify budgeting.
Nichols said staff tested 13 vendor proposals and shortlisted two providers for demonstrations; Rec Technologies ranked highest based on user experience, administrative capability and cost structure. The council approved awarding the contract and directed staff to begin transition planning with a projected go-live date of August 2026. The contract will allow online program registration, better facility reservation flows and improved customer support, staff said.
