Coconut Creek approves $2.4 million surtax‑funded Sample Road multiuse path

The City Commission on Oct. 23 authorized the mayor to execute a first amendment with Broward County that provides approximately $2.4 million in surtax funds for construction of a shared use path on the south side of Sample Road (State Road 834) from Lyons Road to the Tradespark entrance.

Staff said the total project cost is roughly $2.7 million, including about $300,000 already expended for design. The project scope includes a 10‑foot multiuse path of roughly 4,400 linear feet and three bus shelters along the corridor, staff said. Justin (Brent) (project staff) told commissioners the city had been successful in leveraging surtax dollars to fund roadway and multimodal projects.

Commissioners praised staff coordination and city manager involvement in securing funds. The resolution passed on a roll call vote.
