Small-business owner urges Hiram to consider BYOB changes to attract paint-and-sip studio

Derek Wilson, owner of Wild Painting Party, urged the Hiram City Council to consider amending local ordinances to permit BYOB (bring your own beverage) policies for paint-and-sip studios so his business can relocate from Dallas to Hiram.
"We would like to move our business from Dallas to Hiram," Wilson said, describing the business as a family-oriented paint-and-sip that verifies IDs and limits alcohol at family and children's events. He told the council the business operates with activities such as painting, pool, air hockey and photo booths and that allowing BYOB in surrounding cities has made those markets viable.
Jody, a city staff member, told Wilson the city has an ordinance that addresses billiard or pool halls and advised him to review restrictions so his business model would not run afoul of existing code. The staff direction recorded in the meeting indicates the council would have to direct staff to draft a model ordinance for consideration.
City staff and council members said they would research model ordinances and consult the city attorney; the transcript records staff requesting Wilson share written material electronically to assist the review. No ordinance change was voted on at this meeting.
