The highway administrator delivered a quarterly report on Oct. 30 covering major bridge projects, resurfacing and maintenance work and federal grant activity.
The report said work at Green Bridge is progressing with rebar tying complete and a deck pour scheduled for the following Tuesday morning. Redbridge permitting is on hold pending the federal government shutdown because the U.S. Forest Service is the lead agency. Hawkins Bridge negotiations are underway with adjacent property owners and a spring 2026 start is still expected.
Chadwick Bridge, which runs through Mark Twain National Forest, will receive a substructure and deck replacement funded in part by a Federal Lands Access Program grant administered through the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission (MHTC/MoDOT). The program agreement presented to the commission is 100% reimbursable up to $323,000; staff estimated the county share to finish the project would be under $100,000. Staff said the county would seek qualifications in January 2026, with potential bidding in August 2027 and an anticipated opening late 2027 or early 2028.
The administrator reviewed in‑house work totals (brush cutting hours, culvert replacements, ditch work), annual resurfacing contractor miles and costs, and in‑house cold/hot mix and quarry rock usage. He also reported that the department has conducted in‑house CDL training (11 participants, 10 passes) and noted a traffic engineering assistance program grant of $12,000 to hire a consultant for a sign inventory.
Commissioners moved and unanimously approved the program agreement for the Federal Lands Access Program grant for Chadwick Bridge.
