Councilors discussed the Market House’s staffing and event schedule during the Oct. 7 workshop after staff flagged coverage gaps when the market manager was unavailable. Staff said weekday lunchtime vendors and expanding Friday/Saturday offerings could increase hours of activity, and that adequate on-site management is necessary while vendor recruitment and food-service rules expand.
Staff proposed reducing large, borough-sponsored events (weddings and large-scale external events) but preserving community uses and smaller bookings that yield fees. Council asked staff to present a detailed staffing proposal and updated revenue estimates for the market-house line items during the formal budget session.
No staffing changes were adopted at the workshop; staff will provide a recommended budgeted staffing level and expected revenue offsets for council consideration.
