Borger council approves $206,500 purchase of mobile stage with hotel-occupancy-tax funds

The Borger City Council on Oct. 7 approved a purchase of a 14-by-32-foot Showmaster mobile stage using Hotel Occupancy Tax revenue.
City staff described the self-contained, trailer-mounted unit as a clamshell-style stage that opens for performances. Staff said the unit is equipped with a sound system, a slide-in staging system, plugs for power and a large movie screen, and referenced an 8,000-watt generator as part of the specification. The purchase was presented as supporting tourism and live-music events following the city’s recent music-friendly certification.
The purchase was proposed using the HGAC cooperative purchasing program contract PR11-20A09. Council moved and approved the payment of $206,500 to Century Industries to acquire the Showmaster MS-100 mobile stage, with funding from the tourism (Hotel Occupancy Tax) fund. The council’s formal motion passed on voice vote; a roll-call tally was not recorded in the public transcript.
City staff said the trailer will be available for city events and for nonprofit groups to use at community events such as parades, movie nights and concerts. Staff also said lead time for delivery is approximately six months, and they expect the unit to be available before the city’s centennial events next year.
