Texas Music Office certifies Borger as Music Friendly Texas community

Borger received formal recognition Oct. 7 from the Texas Music Office as a Music Friendly Texas community.
Jeanne Muscora, Community Relations and Outreach Specialist for the Texas Music Office, told the council and audience that Borger’s musical history and recent programming made it a strong candidate for the designation. "On behalf of the Texas Music Office and Governor Greg Abbott, I would like to say congratulations to Borger for becoming our newest Music Friendly Texas community," Muscora said, and she showed a certification that the city will receive in the coming days.
Nicole Chavez, Borger’s convention and Main Street coordinator, described the designation as a way to "position us as a regional music hub" and said the program helps draw artists and support tourism. Deidre Thomas, the city’s public engagement coordinator, also participated in the application process and was recognized during the presentation.
City staff and the Texas Music Office highlighted Borger’s history of live music on Main Street, the ongoing local events calendar and an upcoming Battle of the Bands as examples of the local music ecosystem referenced during the virtual certification.
The Texas Music Office said the certification connects participating communities to a statewide database and programs intended to promote music-related economic development. A certificate will be provided to the city for display and documentation.
