The trip organizer said the itinerary would emphasize primary documents and sites relevant to AP American government—Smithsonian museums, monuments on the National Mall (including the Vietnam, World War II and Korean War memorials) and Arlington National Cemetery. The organizer said the original plan to use Amtrak was changed to a regional flight for logistical reasons.
The organizer estimated a maximum group size of about 70 students and currently expects 50–70 participants (around 45 AP U.S. History students and additional AP government students). Funding strategies include Coca‑Cola sales and fundraising; staff said they plan to build a surplus scholarship fund to assist students who cannot afford the trip, and the organizer offered to make a private donation if needed to ensure participation for some students.
Board members applauded the proposal and agreed to place the trip on the consent agenda; no formal vote approving travel was recorded in the work session.
