McAlester pursues $3.27 million ODOT industrial‑access grant for Steven Taylor Industrial Park

The McAlester City Council authorized Public Works staff to submit an Oklahoma Department of Transportation Industrial Access grant application seeking $3,268,260 to repair New Baker Road and the access road serving Steven Taylor Industrial Park.

Staff reported the roads have deteriorated and the grant would finance phases of work. Councilors asked whether partial awards are possible; staff confirmed the grant program can fund part of the scope and explained the submission breaks the project into three phases so the city can accept a partial award and sequence work accordingly.

Staff also said McAlester will not provide matching funds for this application. Council approved the motion to apply and directed staff to proceed with phasing and prioritization plans should the award be partial.
