District updates greenhouse repairs, insurance covers storm damage; board discusses surplus buses and donation for fire‑department training

Operations staff told the board that greenhouse repairs at Coffee High School had been delayed while the contractor awaited anchor stirrups and concrete work. Staff said demo and concrete installation would take about a week after materials arrive, followed by roughly 10 days for concrete cure before the greenhouse could be set on site. Board members were told that insurance is covering storm damage repairs; fence repairs at multiple sites are being scheduled and some work has been completed.

Staff presented a surplus‑property list including maintenance equipment, tractors and five buses. The recommendation was to place four buses on GovDeals for sale and to donate one bus to the Cobb County Fire Department for training. Staff explained that the bus proposed for donation lacks a usable engine and that the fire department had requested a bus for extrication and heavy‑truck training; the district’s transportation staff would assist by showing firefighters how buses are constructed to support safe training.

Board members supported the donation as a partnership for emergency training but asked that the district verify vehicle condition and complete necessary preparation before transfer. The board also noted National School Bus Safety Week and thanked transportation staff for their work.
