The Town of Woodside presented a proclamation to Richard Maines honoring his 25 years of service as chair of the recreation committee during the Oct. 28 council meeting.
Vice Mayor Paul Gold read a lengthy proclamation recognizing Maines’ leadership organizing events including the May Day fun run, adult softball and myriad monthly community activities. "It would be very hard pressed to find anybody who has been involved with the town for 25 years," Gold said, and he described the recreation committee as "one of the busiest groups of people in Woodside." The proclamation noted Maines’ work recruiting volunteers, serving as softball commissioner and coordinating the May Day fun run.
Richard Maines thanked committee members and supporters, described the committee’s long-running activities and said he appreciated the recognition. "I just needed to have the key to the gym so we play some soccer, during the winter," Maines said, adding remarks about the committee’s continuity and incoming chair Rowan.
Staff photographer and a brief photo session followed the presentation. No council action beyond the ceremonial proclamation was taken.
