Board authorizes outreach to first responders on non‑county road repairs for FY26–27

After a presentation on a pilot program that uses roughly $50,000 a year to make targeted repairs to non‑county maintained roads for emergency access, the board directed staff to gather input from emergency responders and prepare project recommendations for the FY26–27 budget cycle.
County roads staff gave before‑and‑after examples of small fixes funded from a recurring general fund allocation intended to maintain access on roads that are not part of the county‑maintained system. The presentation noted work on Lake Street, Darby Street and other localized improvements and showed drainage and ditching work to improve access for residents and emergency responders.
Following questions from board members and several residents about how long fixes last and how projects are selected, a board member moved that staff begin outreach to emergency responders to review candidate roads and prepare estimates for possible inclusion in staff recommendations for the FY26–27 budget.

County staff said the outreach will verify that candidate roads are within public right‑of‑way, meet policy requirements and be cost‑estimated before the budget cycle.
