Trustees award $29,800 tree‑care contract for hazard removals and right‑of‑way work

Public Works requested and trustees approved a professional services contract on Oct. 28 for 2025 tree care, hazard removal and targeted right‑of‑way work. The contract price presented at the meeting was $29,800 and staff reported there is $35,000 budgeted for this program.
Sean Williams (Public Works) said the work includes roughly 30 proposed removals and 19 prune/maintenance actions, primarily in town rights‑of‑way such as Surrey Street, Sunset Vista and Larissa Lane where tree roots have begun to impact curbs and sidewalks. The contract also covers canopy health assessments, permit support and planning for spring replanting and a potential ‘‘adopt a tree’’ program.
Bristlecone, a local Buena Vista firm, submitted a proposal close in price to a second bidder and staff recommended awarding the contract to Bristlecone based on previous work history.
Trustees adopted Resolution 70 authorizing the contract award and directed staff to proceed with scheduling removals and neighbourhood notification. Staff said they will continue to notify affected property owners, noting the town generally maintains trees in the public right‑of‑way and will coordinate privately owned tree maintenance as required.
