Applicant postpones townhouse lot-width variance to November meeting
Summary
An applicant seeking a variance to reduce townhouse lot widths asked the City Board of Zoning Appeals to postpone the matter while pursuing a different zoning interpretation; the board granted the postponement to the November meeting.
The City Board of Zoning Appeals on Wednesday granted a postponement after an applicant asked the board to delay consideration of a variance for a proposed townhouse development.
At the start of the item, applicant Joe Top said the neighborhood association and the local council member asked the developer to pursue the 2016 zoning code pathway. Top said the planning department was still preparing interpretations about how that route would affect the project, and the applicant requested a postponement “in an effort to not waste people's time and, respect the neighborhood and council members' request.”
Board Chair Amy Sherrill called for a motion and the board voted to postpone the case to the November meeting. The applicant told the board that if the board denied the postponement he was prepared to proceed with the hearing that night.
The postponement removes the item from the board's active docket until the applicant returns with clarification about whether the 2016 code pathway will eliminate the need for the variance.
