Beautification board updates town signage, mural repairs; requests slightly reduced 2026 budget

Joy DeFries, chair of the Beautification Advisory Board, appeared at the Town of Buena Vista work session on Oct. 28 to summarize the board’s 2025 accomplishments and a modest 2026 budget request.
DeFries said the board replaced or updated multiple park signs (including Mill Creek Park, Cordova Park and Forest Square Park), repaired or replaced the airport sign and added wayfinding to help visitors find the River Park and other attractions. The board also funded a mural refresh on a private building (the Midland Railroad mural) using fundraising dollars and continued its curb‑appeal recognition program for businesses.
On the budget, DeFries told trustees the board’s 2026 request ‘‘dropped about $8,500 from last year’’ after the group pared non‑essential items and recognized the town’s constrained budget outlook.
Trustees thanked the board for the signage work and recognized the public‑private fundraising that paid for the mural refresh.
