Mayor Bridal formally swore in the incoming chief of the Princeton Police Department during the Oct. 27 Mayor and Council meeting. A mayoral introduction summarized the chief’s career in Princeton policing, K‑9 experience and training credentials.
During the oath, the individual repeated the oath text and identified himself as “I, Matthew Sullivan.” He then delivered remarks thanking family, former chiefs, and department members and described his career path, training and pride in the department’s work. In his remarks he closed with a message to officers: “Be you,” saying the department had hired people for “who you are, your heart, your character, and your humanity.”
The mayor and council and assembled guests welcomed the chief and thanked the police department for its service. The meeting record shows the mayor’s introductory remarks included a biographical narrative that used the surname “Solovey” in parts of the reading while the chief’s oath and subsequent remarks identified him as “Matthew Sullivan.” The transcript contains both spellings; the sworn statement on the record was provided by the person who repeated the oath as “Matthew Sullivan.”
No formal council action was required beyond the ceremonial oath.
