Events Complex reports $18.5 million local economic impact from five 2025 summer events

Sweetwater County Events Complex executive director Candy Pendleton told commissioners Oct. 7 that five large events in summer 2025 generated an estimated $18.5 million in direct spending in the county.
Pendleton said the complex hosted the Tiffin Allegro RV rally, the National High School finals rodeo, the county fair ("Wyoming's Big Show"), Royal Crown barrel racing and Sweetwater Downs horse racing. Using tourism spending estimates provided by the Wyoming Office of Tourism, staff calculated an approximate $18.5 million impact to Sweetwater County from those larger events alone; Pendleton said the complex will produce a fuller annual impact report in February that will include smaller year‑round events.
She provided event highlights and attendee measures: the RV rally brought about 465 motor coaches and an estimated $815,000 in local spending; the National High School finals rodeo reported 1,779 contestants and an economic impact estimate of $11–$12 million regionally (county portion calculated separately); the county fair produced roughly $4 million in local spending; and historic horse‑racing revenues are projected to return roughly $1.5 million to local governments in 2025 (the county's share to date was cited at about $776,842).
Pendleton said some capital projects may be funded from internal Event Complex revenue, including siding work on the sheep barn and an indoor arena boiler, and that the complex is pursuing grants tied to the national 250th anniversary (America 250). She proposed a "Legacy Silo" concept — a silo gazebo with historical photos and QR codes — as a potential grant project and said two grant tiers ($10,000 and $25,000) were available; the deadline for those grants is in December.
Commissioners praised the summer season and directed staff to coordinate further on grant eligibility and timing. Pendleton said the complex will return with detailed cost estimates and design sketches if the commission supports applying for America 250 grant funds.
