Franklin City economic development staff briefed commissioners on the upcoming Business Appreciation Celebration and moved forward with a lower-cost postcard mailing to reach invitees.
Staff said the mayor will present two mayoral awards (listed in staff materials as “Iscaba” and the Salinas Soccer Club) and that other excellence-in-business awards are sponsored by CH Coakley. Winners for the listed awards have been notified, staff said, and the event program will begin with hors d’oeuvres at 5 p.m. and the program at 6 p.m., with the mayor presenting and staff and volunteers handling photography and logistics.
Members raised several outreach and logistics items: some commissioners had not received or could not open the Evite; staff said Evites were sent at the beginning of the month and that multiple resends had been made. Commissioners asked that the staff share the master business contact list so members could confirm that key local businesses — including restaurants such as Honey Butter and institutions like the Polish Center and Polonia (both discussed in the meeting) — were included on the invitation list.
Staff reported 93 RSVPs at the time of the meeting and said the Polish Center could accommodate around 100 people if seating and table placement were adjusted for sightlines. On outreach format, staff presented a cost comparison: an estimated total of about $5,400 for a postcard mailer versus about $8,600 for printing and postage of a full-size newsletter, a savings of roughly $3,000. A commissioner moved for the postcard option (referred to in the meeting as “option 2”); the motion was seconded and recorded as carried.
Commissioners also discussed whether to post the invitation publicly online; several members recommended keeping the event invitation-only to avoid large uninvited crowds. Staff said materials and the invitation would be posted for commissioners’ review but that final public posting would be limited.
Staff and commissioners continued working through small edits to the program booklet and the list of awardees, with several additions (Polonia, Tiger [name as recorded in staff notes]) to be included in the printed program. The commission indicated staff should continue outreach and follow up on missing contact information.
