Substitute teacher urges Carl Junction to repaint crosswalks near schools

Michael Moore, a substitute teacher and resident, told the board Oct. 7 that he frequently observes children and bicyclists struggling to cross streets near school routes and asked the city to repaint worn crosswalks and add marked crossings where children use the route.
"My subject is painted crosswalks for children... I request that you consider marking that as such as a crosswalk," Moore said, describing an incident in which he stopped traffic to let a boy on a bicycle cross where a marked crossing did not exist.
The mayor thanked Moore and said the city would look into crosswalk markings and consider repainting or adding marked crosswalks in locations where children walk or bike to school.
